The purported "fake elector" plan to reverse the 2020 election was only one part of a massive conspiracy that will likely all be charged in one indictment, a former federal prosecutor said Wednesday.
Elizabeth de la Vega said that it’s unlikely that the Department of Justice will cut a deal with Rudy Giuliani, a former member of Donald Trump’s legal team.
Giuliani met with investigators from special counsel Jack Smith’s office on Tuesday, and although details of the meeting remain scant, it has fueled speculation that the former New York City mayor is seeking a deal.
“Quite likely that DOJ won't think Rudy should get a deal,” de la Vega tweeted.
“It's also possible that he & Trump could be defs in a comprehensive indictment in which the false electors scheme is alleged as one of the means used to carry out their conspiracy to obstruct justice & commit sedition," the analyst added.
De la Vega suggested it wouldn't make sense to parse elements of a case that are "inextricably intertwined."
“At the highest level of this multi-faceted conspiracy, it wouldn't be efficacious to charge the false electors plan separately," de la Vega said.
"Because they're inextricably intertwined, it would be more efficient and logical to charge all means used to carry out the conspiracy in one indictment.”
