Family furious after Washington 1-year-old gets shot in head in road rage incident

Family members are furious after a 1-year-old baby in Kent, Washington was shot in the head and critically injured while riding in the back seat of the her family's car.

According to Fox Q-13, the shooting took place as part of a road rage incident involving another driver.

"Because people can't see people hand-to-hand, eye-to-eye," said the girl's mother to reporters, "this is what it comes down to?"

Kent police spokeswoman Melanie Robinson told Channel 13 that on Thursday afternoon, the baby girl was in her car seat in the back seat of her family's silver Chevrolet Impala when a black car pulled alongside the vehicle.

Both the black car's driver and passenger fired into the Impala before speeding away.

The girl's parents -- who were both in the front seat of the Impala -- were unhurt.

The baby was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she is listed as being in "very critical condition."

Police refused to speculate about that nature of the conflict between the occupants of the two vehicles, but according to witnesses, the shooting was the result of road rage.
