Battles broke out in a House Oversight Committee hearing Thursday over the partisan "audit" in Arizona after the 2020 election.
Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) began by specifically citing former President Donald Trump and his significant loss to President Joe Biden and the extent to which Republicans in some states were willing to defend the election despite pressure from the former president and GOP leaders.
He walked through the 60-plus lawsuits about election fraud and corruption, all of which were rejected by each court it appeared before and even waved away by the Supreme Court of the United States.
"This audit rejected the claim that Donald Trump won in Arizona," said Raskin. "I never understood members from Arizona challenging the election by which they themselves were elected in the same election. Yet, still, Mr. [Andy] Biggs can correct me if I am wrong, I hear him not even accepting the results of this audit who said that Joe Biden got more votes than were logically reported by the states."
"Will the gentleman yield? You called me out, would you like me to respond?" asked Biggs.
"Yes, by all means, do you accept the results of this audit that stated that Joe Biden won and won by more votes?" asked Raskin.
Biggs falsely insisted that was not what the audit revealed, asking if Raskin had read the report.
"Who won the election, Mr. Biggs? Who won the election in Arizona?" asked Raskin.
"We don't know," said Biggs, noting it was the hope that they would uncover that in the hearing and that it was Raskin who was perpetuating a "big lie."
Raskin explained that Biggs demonstrated the perfect example of why the lie is "lunacy."
Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) also briefly sparred with a GOP lawmaker over whether the Democratic-led committee was willing to hold oversight hearings regarding the Biden administration.
