Fighting the wage gap: Sarah Silverman gets a penis to avoid $500,000 vagina tax

Comedian Sarah Silverman and Droga5 released a video designed to teach Americans about the wage gap between men and women, and to raise money for the Equal Payback Project to help close it.

In the video -- which contains mature content -- Silverman begins by noting that women make up half the working population, but "only make 78 cents to every dollar a man makes in almost every profession."

"Every year," she continues, "the average woman loses $11,000 to the wage gap. Over the course of the working years of her life, that's over $500,000 -- that's a $500,000 vagina tax!"

"That's why I'm taking matters into my own hands," Silverman announces. "I'm becoming a dude."

After selecting a penis for transplantation, she admits that "this may be an extreme solution for some women, so that's why we're trying to raise the trillions of dollars the rest of you ladies will be cheated out of over the course of their careers."

"If we reach our goal, every woman in America will receive a check for the amount they're owed," she says. In the more likely event that they merely raise a lot of money, "we'll donate the money to the National Women's Law Center (NWLC)," which "fights to get women the money they deserve."

In a press release for the Equal Payback Project, NWLC Co-President Marcia D. Greenberger said that "we’re thrilled that Sarah Silverman is bringing her prodigious talents and brand of irreverent humor to bear on a very serious issue for women and their families. We hope she opens hearts and minds – and a few pocketbooks – to provide the resources to close the wage gap once and for all."
