Former Fox News journalist laments that few people at the network still have 'self-respect'
Veteran cable TV news journalist David Shuster, who in the 1990s worked for Fox News, has told Mediaite's John Ziegler that he's stunned at the way much of his former employer has transformed to be President Donald Trump's personal propaganda station.
During an interview on Ziegler's podcast "Individual-1," Shuster said Fox News' treatment of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was the exact opposite of how it treated Ken Starr's report on former President Bill Clinton's sexual misadventures.
"I don't recognize Fox News," he said. "It's not the Fox News that I worked for."
He explained that Fox had so conditioned its viewers to hear news that's favorable to the president that the network fears its viewers would flee if they did in-depth reporting on the Mueller report.
"For the most part, for the organization as a whole... this would be bad for conservative viewers to hear the truth about what Donald Trump was engaged in, and so as a result, a lot of people at Fox News won't give that to their conservative viewers because that will drive some of them away."
Shuster did acknowledge that some people at the network had maintained their reputations for professionalism -- but they were a tiny minority.
"I felt when I was there -- and I still do feel that there are a lot of people at Fox News who do have some self-respect, who got into this business because they want to report the facts, be aggressive in their reporting, let the chips fall where they may," he said. "When I was at Fox News, that's who I thought I was surrounded by."
