Fox host claims no one wants impeachment just moments after guest begs GOP to do it

Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano on Thursday advised House Republicans to drop a lawsuit against President Barack Obama for abuse of power because he said that impeachment was the "only remedy" allowed by the Constitution.

For months, Andrew Napolitano has suggested that the president deserves to be impeached for everything from so-called sequestration spending cuts to the release of U.S. Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl. In a column for Reason on Thursday, the former judge gave Republicans a blueprint for drafting articles of impeachment by laying out seven ways that the president had done "damage to our fabric of liberty."

Napolitano explained to the hosts of Fox & Friends that the Republicans in the House of Representatives were wasting time and money by suing the president instead of impeaching him.

"In my opinion, it's a slam dunk, it's a political case, and the court will dismiss it," he insisted. "I believe that the president is either incompetent or lawless. I would cheerlead the arguments Republicans are making against him. I believe he's the most lawless president in modern times."

"The remedy is an unpleasant one, it's not a lawsuit because it will be thrown out. [James] Madison provided the remedy in the Constitution, it's removal from office," he continued. "I'm suggesting that it would be far more constitutional and appropriate now than it was in the case of Bill Clinton. And I'm suggesting that it is the only remedy under the Constitution for a president who is either incompetent or lawless or both."

Earlier this week, host Steve Doocy argued that talk of impeachment was a plot started by the White House to "gin up the base before November." And with Napolitano sitting next to him on Thursday, the Fox News host claimed that was still "true."

"I don't know anybody -- conservatives or Republicans -- who are talking about impeachment," he said. "And that's true. The people in my everyday life."

However, Doocy acknowledged that Napolitano, who appears on the show several times a week, and Fox News contributor Sarah Palin were exceptions.
