Fox News host Mike Huckabee: I'm not a hater, I just follow the Bible

Fox News host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee denied being homophobic on Tuesday night, insisting his opposition to same-sex marriage was based on the Bible.

"In this world today we stand alone in our culture, alienated in many cases because we have a view of marriage that calls back to the traditions that go all the way back to the Garden [of Eden]," he told the audience at an Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition event.

People who claimed that Jesus had no teachings about marriage were wrong, Huckabee said, citing Matthew 19:5. The verse reads, "a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."

"Look, I’m not against anybody," Huckabee continued. "I’m really not. I’m not a hater. I’m not homophobic. I honestly don’t care what people do personally in their individual lives."

“When people say, ‘Why don’t you just kind of get on the right side of history?’ I say, ‘You’ve got to understand, this for me is not about the right side or the wrong side of history, this is the right side of the Bible, and unless God rewrites it, edits it, sends it down with his signature on it, it’s not my book to change,’” Huckabee said.

Huckabee also told the audience at the event that Christian conservatives were isolated by American culture in much the same way as Noah was isolated from his ancient society.

"You ever look around our culture, watch a television show, a movie, read the front page of the paper, and you look at what is happening in our world and you just say, 'Am I all by myself in believing what I believe?' Look, I understand that feeling. It is easy sometimes to feel isolated and alone," he remarked.

Similarly, Noah "was alone, and faced the scorn and ridicule of all those around him, but because he believed God, he survived," Huckabee said.
