Biden’s victory lap on coronavirus relief puts Fox News in an awkward position
March 15, 2021
President Joe Biden on Monday addressed the nation on his administration's response to the COVID 19 pandemic following the passage of his $1.9 trillion stimulus package.
"It's one thing to pass a historic piece of legislation like the American Rescue Plan, and it's quite another to implement it," Biden said. "And the devil is in the details. It requires fastidious oversight to make sure the relief arrives quickly, equitably and efficiently with no waste or fraud in your bank account, in your mailbox, to the local business in your community and to your child's school."
"Help is here, and hope is here, in real and tangible ways," Biden said.
Lis Power of the watchdog group Media Matters noted the chyrons that Fox News ran during Biden's address.
"Biden celebrates bill no Republicans backed," Fox News said, without noting the bill was supported by a majority of GOP voters.
"Biden celebrates deal as border rages," Fox posted in an example of whataboutism. "Biden celebrates bill, still no news conference."
"Biden plans to sell plan no GOP backed," Fox repeated.
