Fox pundit says Trump failed to redeem himself: 'It's impossible to be a good Jew and support Donald Trump'

Fox News pundit David Goodfriend, a former staffer for President Bill Clinton, argued on Tuesday that it is "impossible to be a good Jew and support Donald Trump."

During Monday night's speech on the future of the war in Afghanistan, President Donald Trump took some time to do damage control over earlier remarks that suggested "good" and "fine" were marching with neo-Nazis and white supremacists at a pro-Confederate rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

"The problem he has is after his debacle [press conference] last week, a lot of people are going to be skeptical of his message, especially when he's reading it from the teleprompter," National Review editor Rich Lowry explained to Fox News host Bill Hemmer.

Goodfriend pointed out that Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, who is Jewish, was forced to defend his tenure in the Trump administration to his Yale classmates.

"To say that Donald Trump can be trusted with a unifying message is like to say a shark is a vegetarian," Goodfriend opined. "It ain't so and no one is buying it."

"His comments last week dug the grave for him," he continued. "His failed administration is now reeling. And it was the generals who had to come forward and say, 'No, no, we actually aren't racist here; we've got a very multicultural military and let's get back on the script.'"

Goodfriend noted that Lowry had called for competent staffers not to quit the administration because someone needs to run the government.

"Just to understand, and I'm going to say this now as a Jewish American," he added. "There are plenty of Jewish Americans who feel that it is impossible to both be a good Jew and support Donald Trump. Pick one, but you can't have both."

"I think we're stuck with a president who showed his true colors last week," Goodfriend concluded.
