Frantic activity outside the White House after man sets himself on fire -- and Secret Service finds 'suspicious packages'
April 12, 2019
On Friday, journalist Nicholas Kristof tweeted out that someone may have set themselves on fire in front of the White House.
The event occurred as the President was conducting a 5G summit at the White House.
"Someone apparently set himself on fire in front of the White House just now. I was coming out of the West Wing, and the Sevret Service isn’t letting anyone out onto Pennsylvania Ave. They say there are also suspicious packages," Kristof said.

Others confirmed the reports.
A Secret Service Spokeswoman said that "An individual set his jacket on fire in front of the White House. First aid is being rendered & there is no threat to the President."
Correction: A previous version of this post incorrectly said that the President had been holding an immigration conference.
