Superior Court judge recorded misogynistic TikToks in his chambers: report

A New Jersey judge has been accused of recording dozens of TikTok videos containing profanity and sexual references and using violent, misogynistic and racist terms, according to a report.

Some of the videos show Superior Court Judge Gary N. Wilcox in his judicial robes or partly undressed on a bed, the New Jersey Globe reported. They were posted under the pseudonym “Sal Tortorella.”

A complaint against him has been filed by the Advisory Committee of Judicial Conduct, the Globe reported.

Among the videos referenced are one in which he walks through the halls of Bergen County Courthouse wearing a Beavis and Butt-Head T-shirt while Get Down by Nas is playing.

“The song contains explicit lyrics concerning a criminal case and a courtroom shooting as well as derogatory and discriminatory terms, drug and gang references, and the killing of a doctor in a hospital who treated another gang member,” the complaint says.

Many other videos contained him lip-syncing to explicit rap songs.

The videos were posted between April 11, 2021, and March 4, 2023, the Globe reported.

“By his conduct in posting these and similar videos to TikTok, (Wilcox) exhibited poor judgment and demonstrated disrespect for the Judiciary and an inability to conform to the high standards of conduct expected of judges,” the complaint stated.

The complaint claims Wilcox damages the integrity of his position.

Wilcox declined to comment when contacted by the Globe.
