SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California acted Friday to eliminate from state law the use of the word “alien,” an immigration term used to describe unauthorized immigrants of foreign-born individuals living in the U.S. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1096, by Democratic Assemblywoman Luz Rivas, removing the word from California code.
