George Santos faces expulsion push from New York Republicans

Rep. George Santos' (R-NY) days in Congress may be very, very limited.

Rep. Anthony D'Esposito (R-NY) on Wednesday announced that he and five other New York House Republicans would be cosponsoring a resolution to expel their scandal-plagued colleague from the House of Representatives.

The other Republicans sponsored the resolution are Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY), Nick LaLota (R-NY), Marc Molinaro (R-NY), Nick Langworthy (R-NY), and Brandon Williams (R-NY).

Presuming that all congressional Democrats join with the six New York Republicans, that would easily be enough votes to reach a majority, although they would still have to get more Republicans on board to get the needed two-thirds of the House of Representatives needed for Santos to officially get the boot.

The move comes just one day after Santos was hit with a fresh 23-count criminal indictment that included charges of identity theft, credit card fraud, and conspiracy.

Although many of Santos' colleagues have called upon him to resign, he was protected from an expulsion vote by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who was ousted by members of his own party last week.

Santos has been enmeshed in scandal before he was even sworn in as a congressman after numerous media outlets discovered that he had fabricated his academic, work, and family histories.
