Trump's 'crybaby crusade' is 'as stale as a month-old crust of sourdough': conservative columnist
July 14, 2023
Conservative Washington Post columnist George Will on Friday made a bold prediction that is completely at odds with current polls: Namely, that neither former President Donald Trump nor Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will get the 2024 Republican nomination.
In his column, Will predicted that Republican voters will soon grow tired of Trump's "crybaby crusade" about losing the 2020 presidential election, which he also describes as "stale as a month-old crust of sourdough."
Will then documented Trump's multiple missteps, which he insisted would begin to dent Trump's polling lead despite the fact that it has only strengthened despite getting indicted two separate times on dozens of felony counts.
"Trump’s self-harpooning includes expressing contempt for Iowa’s popular governor, Kim Reynolds, because she refuses to endorse him, even though he alone, he says, is responsible for her election," Will argued. "And he is too grand to appear with rival candidates at events, perhaps even the Aug. 23 debate in Milwaukee."

Will had similarly harsh words for DeSantis, whom he compared to a much-hyped new model car that got taken off the market after less than two years after drivers quickly determined it to be a dud.
In particular, Will roasted DeSantis' recent attempt to dodge answering a question about the Trump-incited January 6th Capitol riots by claiming that he wasn't in Washington D.C. at the time and didn't have any major thoughts about it.
"Good grief," Will commented. "He wasn’t anywhere near Gettysburg in July 1863 and had nothing to do with the moon landing in July 1969, but that does not preclude him from having thoughts about these events."
