Police in Stone Mountain, Georgia said on Monday that a 2-year-old boy had been shot and killed.
According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, DeKalb police Capt. Stephen Fore told reporters that "the child was discovered by a family member, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound" at around 10 a.m. on Monday.
Fore said that an aunt was at home asleep at the time of the shooting.
A semi-automatic handgun that was thought to be used in the shooting was found in a storm drain by investigators, who were interviewing family members.
WXIA reported that police were thought to be searching for a suspect.
“Detectives are currently interviewing persons of interest and we’re attempting to determine exactly what took place,” Fore explained. “Right now, it’s just a death investigation.”
DeKalb County police were assisting the Stone Mountain Police Department with the investigation.
