Georgia Republicans send McCarthy letter confirming they believe conspiracies from Marjorie Taylor Greene

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) sent a note from home to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Tuesday, citing some of the same conspiracy theories that she spouts.

In a tweet of the note, Greene revealed that the "Republican Party Chairs and Members of the 14th District" attacked Democrats using ridiculous conspiracy theories twisted by QAnon Republicans. For this reason, they believe there is a double standard for Greene, who spread lies about a Jewish Space Laser, school shooting denialism, and claims 9/11 was an inside job and no plane ever hit the Pentagon.

One attack goes after Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) that even Republicans like Meghan McCain has repeated. The allegation is that Swalwell should be kicked off of the House Intelligence Committee because he dated a woman who turned out to be a Chinese spy eight years ago. Republicans didn't attack Swalwell at the time that it happened. They only came after him after Democrats won the White House.

The facts are that Swalwell, like many lawmakers, was targeted by what the FBI believed was a spy. The FBI approached Swalwell to tell him about it and he immediately ended the relationship and began cooperating with law enforcement. She left the country, and no action has been taken. By contrast, Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) was coordinating on a hearing and legislation with an "active Russian agent" (Andriy Derkach) sanctioned by former President Donald Trump's Treasury Department. Republicans didn't see a problem in that case. When the FBI approached him and other Republicans with concerns about Derkach, Portman and Giuliani not only ignored them, they doubled down.

Previously, former Rep. Steve King (R-IA) was kicked off of committees when he tried to justify his racism, despite being elected by the Iowa voters. So, there's precedent for removing Greene from committees and censuring her. There isn't precedent for the other attacks they've made against Democrats.

"We believe Marjorie Greene has been targeted because she is a conservative that represents conservatives like us and those across the district," the letter says. "We have received countless calls, texts, emails and messages showing continued support for her. We are giving her a chance. We have a process to follow, and if we don't like what she does or says as our representative, we take it to the voting booth next election."

They seem to believe that Greene is being thrown out of Congress, instead of being removed from committees or censured for her behavior.

At no point has Greene apologized or recanted her statements. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) came out against "loony" conspiracy theories, but not against Greene.
