Georgia woman commits suicide at her polling location after voting: report

Voting at a Georgia polling location was disrupted on Tuesday after a woman reportedly killed herself in the parking lot after voting, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

According to police officials, they responded to reports of a shooting at the Lindsay Street Baptist Church, a registered polling place in Fulton County, where voters were taking part in the state's primary on Tuesday. Responding officers found the body of an unidentified woman who suffered a gunshot wound, with a weapon discovered 100 feet from the where votes were being cast.

An initial report from police at the scene indicated that shooting appeared to be self-inflicted, but they were still waiting for a medical examiner.

It was initially reported that the woman had not voted, but Fulton officials confirmed said she had just cast her ballot and left the polling location before being shot.

"It really didn’t disrupt any of the voters that came to vote or interrupt the voting process,” Atlanta police Lt. Carven Tyus said in a statement, adding that police officers were dispatched to the scene to help voters in and out of the building as investigators went over the shooting scene.
