Glenn Beck rants inspire Donald Duck to grab his shotgun: parody

Fired after an act of rebellion inspired by a Glenn Beck radio broadcast, an angry anthropomorphic duck -- wearing a blue sailor's shirt but with no trousers -- accidentally kicks a copy of the Main Street Gazette into his own face. The paper notes that even though "home foreclosures continue to rise," President Obama has chosen to focus on bailing out Wall Street, which turns Donald Duck's face so red that he transforms into a steaming teapot.

This is a re-imagined Donald Duck cartoon remix constructed from dozens of classic Walt Disney cartoons from the 1930s to 1960s. Donald’s life is turned upside-down by the current economic crisis and he finds himself unemployed and falling behind on his house payments. As his frustration turns into despair Donald discovers a seemingly sympathetic voice coming from his radio named Glenn Beck.

While it might not last long on YouTube, McIntosh's fowl Beck mash-up is starting to garner some rave reviews. At the Stranger, Anthony Hecht raves that it "[c]aptures the strategy of the Glenn Becks of the world perfectly—manufacture rage, and then exploit the shit out of it for personal gain," world renowned film critic Roger Ebert linked to the toon at his blog, and Brad Blog simply observes, "Duckin' brilliant."

"That is not right!" Donald Duck screams after Glenn Beck tells his radio listeners that "the ideas that built America are being lost and perverted."

Looking out his window, the duck fingers other beloved Walt Disney characters such as Pluto, Goofy and Mickey Mouse as examples of the "Marxists, Communists and anti-Capitalists" that Beck is railing against.

"You have to think like a German Jew in 1943," Beck warns, which pushes Donald Duck to grab a double-barreled shotgun and hit the streets. But the marching Nazis he saw from his window while he was listening to Beck turn out to be figments of his imagination, since it's not really Nazi Germany. "I almost forgot for a moment," Donald Duck says.

Beck rants about "dark dudes coming our way" turn the duck so paranoid that he seals himself into his house and nearly goes mad, before figuring out the best way to use his shotgun.

It's anyone's guess how the Fox News Channel pundit might react to the mash-up. After initially raving about send-ups by Comedy Central's Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, Beck has been known to backpedal and later bash them.

Beck revealed in January that he kept a picture of Walt Disney on his office wall.

In April, reporting for Forbes, Lacey Rose noted, "In the halls of Mercury's midtown Manhattan office hang pictures of Beck's heroes: Orson Welles, Jack Benny, Paul Harvey, Ronald Reagan, Bob Hope. But it is a photo of Walt Disney that hangs alone outside Beck's corner office."

"I aspire to Walt Disney's never-ending quest to try to improve the quality of what he's doing, his never-ending vision of yes, it can be done," Beck told Rose, who observed at the time that his hands were "flailing" and his "eyes intense."
