'Go back to the beach': Ted Cruz continues war of words with Chris Christie over disaster funding

Former GOP presidential rivals Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) and Gov. Chris Christie (NJ) renewed their war of words on Friday over federal relief dollars for Texas in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, with Cruz telling Christie to take a hike to the beach since no one cares about his opinions anyway.

The two prominent Republicans have been battling each other since Cruz made a plea for federal help for Texas -- after refusing to vote for the same type of help when New Jersey was rocked by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Speaking with the New York Times, Cruz mocked Christie by referring to his beach escapades on the July 4th weekend when the New Jersey governor treated his family to a day on the Jersey shore that was closed to the public.

According to Cruz, he is "quite confident that nobody in Texas gives a flip what Chris Christie has to say.”

"And it seems not many people in New Jersey do either," he added, in reference to Christie's low standing with Jersey residents that rivals that of President Donald Trump.

"Chris should go back to the beach, " Cruz added, getting a dig that is certain to provoke a response from the combative New Jersey governor.
