Responding to a report at Vice on a yoga retreat in Costa Rica that caters to black women -- and black women only -- to "escape white people," racists on Twitter were quick to start whining with an unsurprising amount of bigoted comments.
According to the retreat, documented in video on Vice, "We followed a group of women to the Women of Color Healing Retreat in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, a travel experience that emphasized yoga, vegan food, and political education seminars — and specifically banned white people."
In a short clip from the video that ran on HBO, retreat founder Andrea X explained the rationale for the get-away.
"I have no tips for white people. Let us have our space," the businesswoman explained. "Let us have our room and [you go] hang out with other white people - you've done enough damage."
That apparently set-off white Twitter users who appeared to be offended at the idea of being excluded from practicing yoga in a tropical setting, with one suggesting, "surely Africa would welcome them with open arms!"
A sampling below, including the video clip:
A racially divisive political climate has driven people of color to make a point of finding time to have private conversations and experiences outside of that context. VNT travelled to Costa Rica to see what these trips look like. #vicenewstonightpic.twitter.com/JXaAbtYzkv
