Google exec’s heartbreaking story about the death of his 11-year old son reveals how Trumpcare could ruin more lives

With the Senate possibly voting to repeal Obamacare this week, Google Ventures Partner Ken Norton took to Twitter to share his own story about his experience in the health care system -- and to demonstrate why the GOP's proposed plan would hurt the people who need help the most.

Norton begins  his story by talking about his son Riley, who died in 2014 at the age of just 11 years old. Norton explains that Riley had been born with a severe heart defect in 2003, which would ultimately end up costing him his life.

However, Norton says that Riley was, in some ways, blessed because Norton was always covered by his company's insurance policy, which meant that his family was not constantly stressed about trying to come up with money they could use to help keep him alive.

"His multiple heart surgeries and hospitalizations rang up more than $3 million in bills, all of which were paid by my insurer," Norton writes. "We got 11 ½ years with Riley because the very best doctors in the world did everything they could for him, without regard for cost. We focused on giving him a happy life instead of bankruptcy, GoFundMes, or taking second or third jobs that would take us away from him."

The Republicans' proposed health bill would allow for states to allow insurers to set lifetime limits on care -- and its provision allowing states to offer insurers waivers for essential health benefits would have made someone like Riley uninsurable thanks to his preexisting condition.

In his conclusion, North indirectly chides Republicans who are touting tax cuts for rich people as benefits to repealing Obamacare.

"I don’t want a tax cut," he says. "I want everybody to have what we had. Because we are humans."
