A conservative YouTuber challenging Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) — whom he accuses of being insufficiently far right — could soon face serious backlash from the MAGA base over newly surfaced insults he levied against former President Donald Trump's teenage son.
The Daily Beast reported Monday night that GOP challenger Brandon Herrera last month relentlessly mocked Trump's 17-year-old son Barron.
A co-host of Herrera's podcast, from February, can be heard demeaning Barron as a “long ventriloquist-like dummy” who looked like “Slenderman” and being the new “cryptid”— a fabled creature akin to Bigfoot.
And, the outlet reports, Herrera chimed in saying stands “like nine feet tall” and that he is “starting to become a meme” while imitating Barron's voice.
“Daddy is coming, Daddy is angry,” Herrera can be heard saying in the pretend voice.
Herrera didn't respond to the Daily Beast's request for comment, but wrote on X, "It’s called having a sense of humor, makes you more fun at parties."
Herrera doesn't appear to be all-in on a Trump second term, according to the report.
During an August episode of the “Wake Up America Show” with Austin Peterson, Herrera questioned Trump's capability to notch a victory when the presumptive Republican nominee faces off against President Joe Biden in the general election on Nov. 5.
“I just don’t know if he can carry the actual election,” he said. “If I had to predict, I think Trump will win the primary by a landslide and lose the general. Eight more years of winter, or four more years of winter rather.”
And while he claimed he “really enjoyed Trump’s presidency” he accused the 45th president of having “messed up a lot of stuff, specifically pointing to his policy on “guns and things.”
A source close to Trump told the outlet that Herrera's prospects are very slim given what he's allegedly said in public.
“If this s---head actually said these vile things, he has no place in the party,” the person said.
Another source was blunt: “Brandon Herrera would be a disaster for Republicans. Not only did he mock President Trump’s teenage son, which is totally uncalled for and disgusting behavior, he said Trump cannot win the general. This will not go unnoticed.”
A prominent GOP operative told The Beast that this isn't the first time Herrera's name has come up with his foot in his mouth.
“I’ve heard that Brandon Herrera has a problem with keeping his mouth shut and has a problem with saying stupid stuff, and this is just the tip of the iceberg,” the GOP operative said. “Brandon Herrera is going to have a very bad time over the next couple months if what I’ve heard is true.”
