Republicans will keep losing because they are running to the right: ex-GOP staffer
November 11, 2023
The Republican party is going to keep losing elections if those in power continue to pursue the same strategy of running toward Trump and the MAGA right, according to a former GOP staffer.
Kurt Bardella, a former staffer for Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe and Republican Congressman Darrell Issa, appeared on MSNBC's Ayman to discuss the recent elections in which GOPers suffered some devastating losses.
Bardella compared the situation to the Republican Party in California in the 90s.
"You want to know how this ends on a national scale, look at what happened to the California Republican party. People forget, that in the 90s, the Republican party in California was thriving. They had a majority in the state legislature. They were leading the governor's race. Pete Wilson was the governor. What happened over time, they moved so far to the right they started trying to appease their primary voters and what ended up happening within the decade, they found themselves completely out of power."
Bardella added:
"Democrats had veto-proof majorities in the state legislature. Democrats swept all the state legislative offices, all the statewide offices, all the constitutional offices, because Republicans kept pandering to the extreme right, prioritized winning primaries not general elections, and that was the end result. that's exactly what we're seeing right now from Republicans at the national level: prioritizing winning their primaries, pandering to the MAGA extreme right, pandering to the Fox News crowd, and at the end of the day it is so out of touch with the majority of Americans."
