GOP subpoena of ex-FBI Director Andrew McCabe draws fierce rebuke from top House Judiciary Dem

The ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee blasted his own chairman following an announcement that the panel will subpoena former FBI Director Andrew McCabe for memos and documents relating to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

According to the tweet announcing the subpoena, the demand for documents is directly related to the New York Times report claiming Rosenstein wanted to record his conversations with Donald Trump and floated the invocation of the 25th Amendment to remove him from office with cabinet officials.

"Some of the people on the House Judiciary Committee — including, unfortunately, the chairman now — have been doing what they can to undermine [special counsel Robert Mueller's] investigation, to sabotage it," Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) told MSNBC's Ari Melber. 

Those efforts include calls for Rosenstein's impeachment from committee members and for the legal demand for documents pertaining to the "ongoing criminal investigation" into Trump, Nadler added.

"Some of the people on the Republican side want to do anything to sabotage this investigation," the ranking Democrat said, "and it's highly irresponsible and very dangerous."
