The Wall Street Journal's Olivia Beavers is reporting that Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC), the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, is telling GOP lawmakers to immediately stop holding town halls.
According to Beavers, Hudson told a gathering of Republicans on Tuesday morning that "no one should be doing town halls" at the moment and he likened the current moment to the kinds of angry town halls Republicans experienced back in 2017 during their failed effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
Hudson also predicted that "the protests at town halls and district offices are going to get even worse" in the coming weeks.

"To be clear, this comment applies to in person town halls," Beavers added in a followup post. "House Rs are still advocating for other types of meetings like tele-town halls, Facebook lives, etc."
Multiple Republican lawmakers in deep-red districts and states in recent weeks have been confronted with constituents who are angry about the massive cuts that X CEO Elon Musk is making to the federal workforce without any congressional authorization or input.
In the last election cycle where Republicans faced down angry constituents at town hall meetings, the party lost a total of 41 seats in the House of Representatives.
