A group with Republican ties is targeting six GOP senators to preserve the IRA energy tax credits, according to an Axios exclusive report.
The ads are being put out by Built for America and will appear on several right-leaning outlets, including Fox, Newsmax, Truth Social, and others.
Axios reports it's a $1.5 million ad purchase and their main goal is to “defend the IRA on MAGA grounds.”
The report is referring to the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, and should not be confused with the IRA of 2017.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the 2022 act is “the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history, offering funding, programs, and incentives to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy and will likely drive significant deployment of new clean electricity resources.”
It also offered a significant amount of tax credits to companies that invest in green energy.
Axios reports, Built for America is targeting Senators Todd Young (R-ID), Dave McCormick (R-PA), Jerry Moran (R-KS), John Cornyn (R-TX), Mike Crapo (R-ID), and Thom Tillis (R-NC).
The group, which is run by West Virginia's former lieutenant governor Mitch Carmichael (R), has tailored the ads to each of these senators' specific states. Their primary message is "Trump country is booming," and to ensure the senators "keep what works."
According to Axios, “Built for America launched this month with a $2 million, Trump-focused buy that's similarly focused on conservative media.”
Built for America is not disclosing its donors.
The group has previously released an ad that said, "President Trump has China on the ropes" as manufacturing comes home. It later says, "Now, let's finish the job."
The ads are attempting to stop the House-passed version of the “big, beautiful bill.”
The proposed house plan ends many IRA credits. The Senate Finance Committee released its tweaks to the bill on Monday. Axios claims it “would still greatly restrict IRA credits overall.”
