Gunfire abruptly ends dispute between University of Georgia frats

A dispute between two University of Georgia fraternity houses came to an abrupt end early Sunday morning after one frat brother appeared on a balcony and pointed a gun at members of a different frat house and then fired once in the air, reports Online Athens.

According to a news release from University of Georgia police, they received a report of shots fired on Greek Park Circle. Police state that earlier in the morning a verbal dispute broke out between members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Tau Kappa Epsilon members.

Approximately a half-hour later,  five to six members of each fraternity were standing between their houses arguing when a man stepped out on a landing at the TKE house and pointed a gun at PKA members.

The man reportedly then pointed the gun at sky and shot once before pointing the gun at the opposing frat members again. At that time, members of both fraternities retreated back  into their respective houses.

According to investigators, the shooter has been identified as a fraternity member, but his name will not be released until the investigation is complete.

UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said Sunday afternoon said that the shooter likely will be charged.
