Only 'credulous' Sean Hannity could make GOP's first impeachment hearing look good: analysis

House Republicans' first impeachment inquiry hearing was widely panned by critics, including from some diehard supporters of former President Donald Trump.

However, Washington Post political analyst Philip Bump noticed there was at least one setting where the hearing got a glowing review: Sean Hannity's primetime Fox News show.

In his latest analysis, Bump knows Hannity for "credulously" hosting Reps. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) and letting them spread falsehoods on his show without any pushback.

Bump first goes through a number of false or misleading statements made about President Joe Biden and his relationship with son Hunter Biden and explains how the Republicans either ripped statements completely out of context or failed to provide additional information that shows less-than-nefarious intent behind some of the messages Hunter Biden sent to his uncle, James Biden.

"If you were watching Hannity’s show, though, none of this context and correction was presented," notes Bump. "You saw Hannity spend 10 minutes or so railing against the imperviousness of the evidence against Biden and the nefariousness of anyone who denied that fact. You heard three elected Republican leaders making explicit claims about Biden without hearing any of the qualifications those claims demand."

Bump concluded his analysis on a pessimistic note and argued that trying to get facts and context through to Hannity's viewers was like "dropping leaflets into North Korea."
