'Incredibly alarming': Expert says Trump's second-term plan threatens fresh water access

Former President Donald Trump's determination to eradicate abortion could threaten all Americans' access to fresh air and clean water, a legal expert said Tuesday.
Georgetown Law Professor Michelle Goodwin appeared on MSNBC to warn of the havoc Trump could wreak if he steamrolled various government agencies, removed career agency leaders, and replaced them with deputized loyalists, as he reportedly plans.
"It's incredibly alarming," Goodwin said. "They help us making sure we have clean air, fresh water, making sure that we can live a healthy sustainable life."

Goodwin highlighted the important work done by federal agencies such as the Department of Education, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Food and Drug Administration.
"All of these various agencies ... have been responsible for doing the work that actually keep us healthy and safe," Goodwin said.
But Trump's mission to eradicate abortion, as reported by Politico, already has him planning to meddle with the EPA, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Postal Service.
"It's disconcerting," Goodwin said.
The public, Goodwin argues, needs to understand that "draining the swamp" could cost the U.S. experienced and unpartisan professionals who follow the science first.
"When you think about gutting some of these agencies," Goodwin said, "then we're talking about matters that affect our health, that affect how vaccinations, for example, come into the marketplace and how drugs come to the marketplace."
That's why Goodwin believes federal agency leadership should not be pulled into to Trump's political games.
"What the former president is making very clear is that he has a thumb on the scale," Goodwin said. "That should cause us all to be deeply alarmed."
