‘Heirs of the Confederacy’ protested in Chapel Hill: ‘Go home racists’

A small group calling themselves "Heirs of the Confederacy" were drowned out by a much larger group of anti-racist protesters in Chapel Hill on Saturday.

The group gathered to protest the removal of "Silent Sam," a bronze statue commemorating a Confederate soldier.

"Join us as we protest the anti confederate hysteria espoused by authorities, officials, students, faculty, staff and organizations in Chapel Hill/UNC that have succumbed to a state of anarchy and utter disregard for the rule of law," Heirs of the Confederacy said while promoting the event.

The group was met by a much larger group protesting racism.

"Go home, racists!" they chanted.

They also chanted, "One, two, three -- f*ck white supremacy!"

Another chant was, "Cops and Klan go hand in hand."

"Despite some shoving and a brief tug-of-war over a Confederate flag, there were no arrests and there appeared to be no injuries except to participants’ vocal cords during the two-hour clash," The News and Observerreported.
