PBS Newshour reporter Laura Barrón-López revealed a Congressman was the victim of a crime in Washington, D.C. near his apartment.
"Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) was carjacked at gunpoint tonight outside his apartment building in DC, multiple sources confirm to me. And Cuellar is safe, they say," she tweeted late Monday evening.
Washington D.C. has experienced a 6 percent increase in gun crimes in the past year, Axios reported in May. Washington attempted to ban firearms but it was overturned in 2008.
There were no specifics about which area of Washington the incident unfolded. As with most cities, some areas are safer than others.
