Here's how Trump's tariff threats will impact you: CNBC

On Monday, CNBC’s Editor-at-Large, John Harwood sat down with MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle to discuss the impact of Trump's "escalating" trade war with China.

Over the weekend Trump threatened to increase tariffs on Chinese goods.

"Trump warned that tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods could rise to 25% on Friday and China was considering canceling this week’s trade talks with the U.S. in light of the threat," a report from CNBC said.

Harwood broke down Trump's impulsive cycle of negotiating with China.

"President Trump responds moment to moment," Harwood said. " So when the stock market does badly because of his trade war, he will tend to pull back, and when he gets close to a deal and he sees criticism of the deal he will pull back and threaten more tariffs which will cause the cycle to continue."

"This is a president who acts on short term impulses and not long term strategy," he added.
