Here's why Jared and Ivanka have gone into hiding

MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace raised a question many have been asking on her show "Deadline: White House" Tuesday afternoon: Whatever happened to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner?

President Donald Trump's oldest daughter and son-in-law used to be viewed as top influencers in the White House, and they garnered widespread attention and interest in political media. In recent weeks and months, though, they appear to have faded from the scene.

"The word I hear is that the kids have gone underground," Wallace said. "What do you hear about what Jared and Ivanka are up to?"

"Jared and Ivanka, Jared in particular, have kept a lower profile in recent months, particularly since Kushner had his security clearance downgraded," Jonathan Lemire, an Associated Press reporter, told Wallace. "There remains concern in the White House, outside among Trump allies, from all of our reporting, about what Kushner's exposure could be here."

He noted that special counsel Robert Mueller, who is in charge of the investigation examining potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election, is likely very interested in a number of meetings and interactions Kushner is believed to have had with foreign leaders and business moguls, especially with regard to his troubled property at 666 5th Ave in Manhattan.

"That's certainly something that Bob Mueller would pay attention to," Lemire said.
