Here's why young white evangelical women in Texas are breaking with Ted Cruz

New York Times reporter Elizabeth Dias told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that white evangelical women are breaking with Ted Cruz for Beto O'Rourke, a shift driven primarily by the issue of family separations.

"This group was ready to give up being long time Republican supporters, mostly on the single issue of abortion to say, 'hey', as one of them said, 'we care as much about babies at the border as we do about babies in the womb'," said Dias, who added that it was "a radical choice".

"Many white evangelicals around the country support the Republican agenda wholeheartedly based on this issue of abortion," Dias said. "But now they're seeing Beto O'Rourke, someone they're telling me better represents Jesus, frankly, and the range of ways they saw Jesus caring for the vulnerable people. They said, 'look, we all voted for Ted Cruz in 2012 and no more."
