'Homegrown terrorism': Beastie Boy Ad Rock denounces Nazi graffiti on bandmate MCA's memorial park

At a protest in Brooklyn Heights on Sunday, former Beastie Boy Adam "Ad Rock" Horovitz spoke out against the "homegrown terrorism" that resulted in his longtime bandmate Adam Yauch's memorial park getting spray painted with swastikas and the words "Go Trump" last week.

Jezebel.com's Lauren Evans attended the anti-hate rally, which was directed by Democratic New York state senator Daniel Squadron and featured remarks by a number of local legislators and activists.

“I imagine we’re all here today because we’re thinking the same thing,” Horovitz said to the crowd. “Spray painting swastikas in a children’s playground is a messed up thing to do.”

He continued, "(T)o many of us it has special meaning, as this park is named for Adam Yauch who was my friend and bandmate for over 30 years. He was also someone that taught nonviolence in his music, in his life to all of us."

“We have elected a president who has given the message that it’s ok to write ‘White Power’ in high school hallways, that it’s okay to attack women and girls, and that Latinos and Muslims and Jews are bad people, and that you can electroshock ‘the gay’ out of somebody...come on!” he said. “This is homegrown terrorism for real...I reject Donald Trump’s vision for America. New York City, I’m asking you to do the same.”

Attendees reported that the rally was so well-attended that police had to intervene and cordon the area off. Onlookers gathered on a nearby overpass to watch.
