Donald Trump's own niece on Wednesday said she had "hope for 2024" based on her perception that the recent special election in New York showed that many independent voters will abandon the former president.
Mary Trump, who recently said her uncle is furious after facing a massive legal judgment, said the corporate media missed some of the highlights from Tuesday's vote, which saw a Democrat flip the seat once occupied by GOP George Santos.
Mary Trump wrote on her Substack that the data underlying the special election is what gave her hope.

Specifically, the relative of the former president highlighted the fact that Santos was criminally indicted. This shows, according to Mary Trump, that people will run from anyone with similar legal concerns, such as her uncle.
"After George Santos embarrassing tenure, replete with lies, extremism, and serious allegations of fraud (all supported by his Republican colleagues until they realized Santos was too much of an albatross around their necks), voters resoundingly rejected the Republican Party’s candidate in favor of a clean slate," she wrote on Wednesday. "Outside of the Republican base, voters are clearly tired of a party that continues to tie itself to, and subjugate itself to, a pathetic con-man buffoon, who is facing numerous federal indictments over his alleged fraud and crimes against his own country."
She then put a fine point on what the recent vote could mean.
"The independent swing voters who rejected Santos’ party are exactly the kinds of voters who will abandon Donald, if we can reach them – since the corporate media seems to abdicate its responsibility to the American people," she added.
