House Judiciary Committee will open investigation into Trump's push to host G7 at his golf resort

On Wednesday, Politico reported that Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee plan to launch an investigation into President Donald Trump's push to host next year's G7 summit at the Trump National Doral golf resort in Miami.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Constitution subcommittee head Steve Cohen (D-TN) stated that such a move would constitute a violation of the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution, which prohibit the president from accepting gifts from foreign governments.

The decision to host the G7 at Doral has not been made official. Trump has denied that the push to host the G7 at Doral is to enrich his family business, insisting that it was one of many candidate locations that his aides suggested as the most convenient.

A Washington Postreport earlier this year indicated that Doral has suffered a steep decline in revenue since Trump took office.
