'Bordering on the absurd': House Republican trashes party's inability to govern

Rep. Steve Womack (R-AR) expressed his outrage over his own party's leadership dysfunction on CNN Wednesday morning.
Republicans, after their historic ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the speakership by a gang of eight defectors led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), are now divided over who should take over from him, with no consensus in sight and most business in the House of Representatives paralyzed until the new speaker is chosen.
"How frustrated are you right now?" asked anchor Phil Mattingly. "You are a congressman known as somebody who does the work."

"Are you kidding me?" said Womack. "I have been frustrated since before we were seated as the new majority. But I knew going in with a very thin, four, five-seat majority, we were going to struggle to get some of the most important work done."
"We got through debt ceiling — we got through the speaker's vote, then the debt ceiling, then we ran into a brick wall on appropriations," Womack continued. "As you said, I am an appropriator. So funding the government is part of our fundamental duty, and we can't even do that. Now here we are at the eleventh hour with a clock ticking on a CR that runs out in mid-November, and we can't seat a speaker. That says volumes. At first it was somewhat comical. Now it's bordering on the absurd."
"Let's hope that we can put this behind us quickly and move on to the important business of our country and our world," he added.
