Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) told CNN's Jake Tapper that the pressure tactics being used by allies of Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-OH) in his bid for the speakership had gone way over the line – and he said it was different from pressure tactics he'd seen in past speakership votes.
He was speaking just before Jordan lost a third vote in his attempt to take the role.
Crenshaw, who is still voting to support Jordan's speakership bid, nonetheless described the pressure campaign leveled against reluctant Republicans as seriously unhelpful.
"These attacks have become extremely vicious," said Crenshaw. "They're different. I've been subject to a lot of attacks from the far right, but these are different and they have entrenched the opposition."

Crenshaw went on to say that the GOP needs to do a full reset to figure out who it wants to select as its next speaker, and he said that forcing members to stay over the weekend and continue to take votes on the speakership would backfire.
Crenshaw also criticized the way that some of his fellow Republicans view their job.
"Too many people up here seem to think that the real work is yelling at each other over their personal grievances over who should be speaker," he said. "That's not the real work."
