Hurricane victims left homeless claim Red Cross has abandoned them

Two dozen victims of Hurricane Sandy are protesting in New York after the Red Cross cut off aid to them, reported WPIX New York.

The protestors represent about 120 families.

Initially, the nonprofit offered victims left homeless a weekly $100 stipend, as well as providing shelter in hotels.

But now, the stipend money is gone; instead, they are receiving eviction notices.

"Red Cross please come across," said one sign.

Another sign showed pictures of young children and simply read, "Red Cross please."

The Red Cross says the problem is now the city's responsibility.

Some protestors have claimed that the Red Cross directed them to other agencies that could help, only to find that those organizations said they can offer no assistance.
