Fox News personality Rachel Campos-Duffy rejected the notion that America is a “nation of immigrants” Wednesday in a rant aimed at opponents to President Donald Trump’s deportation policy, proclaiming the country to, in actuality, be a “nation of settlers.”
“This is the question about why the left continues to side with illegals over Americans who have been so obviously hurt by this open border illegal immigration problem that was just compounded by Joe Biden: the real question is about who we are as Americans,” Campos-Duffy said, speaking on "The Will Cain Show."
“You often hear 'we're a nation of immigrants!' I think the question is, are we a nation of immigrants, or are we a nation of settlers? I would argue that we are the latter. We are a country that was forged and created by settlers, settlers who came and formed a new identity, a new culture, and then we allowed immigrants to come in and assimilate, and that has not happened.”
Trump has ramped up his mass deportations in recent months, with a majority of those arrested for deportation having no criminal history. Arrests of migrants with no criminal history have increased by 807% since Trump took office, and 65% of all those arrested for deportation had no prior convictions, according to internal data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It’s these immigration raids, often targeting farms and other places of work, that have led to a fierce pushback from Democrats and demonstrators, some of them impeding ICE’s efforts.
However, at least according to Campos-Duffy, those who object to Trump’s mass deportations aren’t doing so due to the lack of due process, or due to the sometimes violent nature of the immigration raids, but rather, it’s because they “hate” America.
“The left hates America; they hate our founding story, they hate our founding fathers, they hate everything about us, our founding documents, they hate it,” Campos-Duffy said. “What the illegal immigrant represents for them is a chance for them to remake America in a different image, some sort of Marxist, dystopian perfect utopia that they want.”
A smiling Cain applauded Campos-Duffy for her rant, noting it was similar to discussions in his own home after watching "Fox and Friends," where Campos-Duffy currently works as a co-host.
“Now that is good stuff!” Cain said. “That is the type of stuff that you got on the couch in my office after 'Fox and Friends,' and I'm so happy that I got it here today on 'The Will Cain show.'”
