Indiana church sign shames sexual harassment victims by telling them to 'wear clothes'

A church in Jeffersonville, Indiana is facing a major backlash from local residents after it posted an inflammatory message on its outdoor church sign about sexual harassment.

Local news station WLKY reports that the Emmanuel Baptist Church on Sunday posted a message on its outdoor sign that read, "Stop sexual harassment -- wear clothes."

The sign, which implied that women who wore skimpy outfits were responsible for their own sexual harassment, generated outrage from the town's citizens.

"As a mom of two daughters, this infuriated me," resident Allyson Condra told WLKY. "As a female myself, this infuriated me. As a human being, this infuriated me."

"I mean, would you say that to a 6-year-old girl who has been assaulted when they wear overalls and pigtails?" resident Madilyn Shipman said to WLKY.

The sign was taken down after a community outcry against it late Sunday night, but the church's pastor still hasn't answered any questions about why the sign was posted and what message it was trying to send to women in the community.
