Indiana cop charged with two felonies after horrific video shows him stomping on homeless man's head
On Thursday, NBC News reported that a police officer in Indianapolis has been charged with two felonies after body camera footage showed him stomping on a Black homeless man's head.
"Eric Huxley, 43, a 14-year veteran with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, was charged with official misconduct and battery with moderate bodily injury, police said," reported Antonio Planas. "Federal authorities also are investigating Huxley's conduct from the Sept. 24 arrest of 39-year-old Jermaine Vaughn, who was handcuffed and on the ground when another officer's body camera appears to show Huxley approach the suspect and stomp once on his head with his left foot."
According to the police, Huxley has been suspended without pay following the incident, with Indianapolis Police Chief Randal Taylor saying, "I'm upset. It hurts me to see any of our officers treat someone the way that you're going to see here shortly. No excuse for it."
Huxley's attorney says he did not act with any criminal intent.
The incident comes over a year after protests erupted across the nation over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, after former officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for over 9 minutes. Chauvin was convicted of murder earlier this year — a rarity as police killings rarely result in charges or convictions.
