After Colion Noir, a pundit for the National Rifle Association's media arm, called for Congress to pass laws limiting the ability of "mainstream media" to report on mass shootings in a bizarre solution to the epidemic, Twitter exploded in criticism of the fascistic pitch.
By the pundit's knowledge, school shooters are not "inspired" by firearms, but rather by the "infamous glory of past shooters" that are profiled in the wake of each ensuing tragedy.
"It's time to put an end to this glorification of carnage in pursuit of ratings because it's killing our kids," Noir said in the NRATV video. "It's time for Congress to step up and pass legislation putting common sense limitations on #MSM's ability to report on these school shootings."
"Guns don’t kill people," Politico's Marc Caputo tweeted in response to the video. "Information kills people."
"An organization that claims to be dedicated to defending the 2nd Amendment advocating limiting the 1st," another user wrote.
Ian Millhiser, a justice editor at ThinkProgress, also noticed the bizarre constitutional understanding of the gun rights behemoth.
"The only thing stopping a good guy with the First Amendment is a bad guy with the Second Amendment," he tweeted.
Others still pointed out that the NRA may be trolling viewers with their roundabout call to (legislative) arms.
"When media folks (rightly) point out how problematic this is, NRA will say 'LOOK THE MEDIA WANTS TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUN RIGHTS BUT WON'T LET US TOUCH THEIR FREE-SPEECH RIGHTS,'" Aaron Blake, a reporter for the Washington Post, noted.
