Hillyard described sizable protests outside the venue calling attention to the Minneapolis shooting and related deportation raids, and shared interviews with event attendees who said the aggressive federal response — including multiple shootings that have sparked nationwide condemnation — made them uncomfortable with Trump’s approach.
