Former Bush appointee rips conservatives promoting nationalism based on Nazi 'blood and soil' rhetoric

On Friday, a conservative member of a panel hosted by CNN’s Jake Tapper made a connection to comments used Republicans to similar rhetoric used by Nazi's.

After, a mass shooting at a New Zealand mosque, several commenters pointed out the similarities between President Donald Trump's hateful rhetoric to those who claim white nationalism.

"He may not be a white nationalist, but he has the support of all of these groups," columnist Mehdi Hasan said.

Conservative Linda Chavez, said the ideology spreading on the right is "disturbing."

"We always talk about this in terms of white nationalism and white supremacy. But what's happening in the conservative movement at least a wing of the conservative movement is even more disturbing," she said.

"They dropped the word white, but nationalism is the rage now on the right. [They ] promote nationalism as a proper ideology. You have the president himself talking about turning us into a nationalist nation. When they talk about nationalism they are talking about a nation as defined by blood and soil. So it's people who are here and who can trace it back to England," she said.
