Jack Smith just got even more 'very useful evidence' against Trump: CNN analyst
December 22, 2023
The newly unearthed recording of former President Donald Trump pressuring officials in Michigan to not certify the results of the 2020 presidential election could provide more fodder for special counsel Jack Smith in his election subversion case, argued a CNN legal analyst on Friday.
The recording in question showed Trump telling two Michigan canvassers to refuse to sign off on their state's election results, while promising to hire lawyers to them if they complied.
Appearing on CNN, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Krissoff said she wouldn't be surprised to see this recording pop up in Trump's upcoming trial in Washington D.C. next year.
"This is going to be very useful evidence for the special prosecutor," she said. "This is the type of evidence juries like. They're going to love it, actually, if they get to hear it. I think this is -- having this recording to supplement any witness testimony is really a useful piece of evidence for the special prosecutor."

Krissoff was then asked if she thought Smith and his team would be able to access the recording in time for the trial, and she said that would not be an issue at all.
"One thing the Department of Justice has is the ability to basically get whatever they want," she said. "They have access to information in a way the rest of us don't have access to. To the extent they don't have it, I'm sure it will be in their hands very shortly."
