CNN anchor Jake Tapper was visibly stunned on Monday by a report that President Donald Trump shared a fake story from an obvious parody news website.
On Sunday, Trump posted on Truth Social that former President Barack Obama earned at least $40 million in royalties since 2010 from Obamacare, his signature policy achievement. The post was viewed millions of times by his 11 million followers.
Tapper discussed the post on CNN's "The Lead" on Monday.
"The claim, if you can callit that, originated on a websitecalled the Dunning-Kruger Times, which notes on its aboutsection, 'Everything onthis website is fiction, unquote, everything,'" Tapper said "As for the Dunning-Kruger Times followers, well, the website calls thosefolks 'taters' or 'conservative fans of America'slast line of defense, which isthe spin off network Dunning-Kruger Times describestaters as 'fragile, frightened, mostly older caucasian Americanswho believe nearly anything.'"
"As for that flagship,America's last line of defense,it describes itself as a 'network of trolls and propagandafor cash,'" Tapper continued. And yet, President Trump posted something from thatsite on Truth Social as if itwere a factual newsstory from a legitimate source.President Trump even wrote inall caps, 'Wow.'"
