Janelle Monáe just dropped the mic at the Grammys for #TimesUp and #MeToo movement: 'We come in peace -- but we mean business'

Janelle Monáe introduced Kesha's "Prayin" at the Grammys with a powerful message for the #TimesUp and #MeToo movements.

"Tonight I am proud to stand in solidarity as not just an artist but as a young woman with my fellow sisters in this room who make up the music industry," she began. "Artists, writers, assistants, CEOs, producers, engineers and women from all sectors of the business. We are all daughters, wives, mothers, sisters and human beings. We come in peace -- but we mean business."

She also issued a strong warning to the nay-sayers.

"To those that would dare try and silence us," she began. "We offer you two words: times up. We say times up for pay inequality. Times up for discrimination. Times up for harassment of any kind and time's up for the abuse of power."

She noted that harassment and inequality isn't merely going on in Hollywood, but across the world and in all industries.

"Just as we have the power to shape culture, we also have the power to undo the culture that does not serve us well," she said. "So, let's work together, women and men, as a united music industry committed to creating more safe work environments. Equal pay and access for all women."
