Jim Jordan could be a worse speaker than even the admitted child molester: columnist

Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Will Bunch really does not think much of the prospect of a House Speaker Jim Jordan (R-OH).

In his latest piece, Bunch makes the case that Jordan could come in below the very low bar for bad speakers that was set by disgraced former Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-IL), who was convicted of financial crimes related to his attempt to coverup his past sexual abuse of children.

While acknowledging that Hastert will be tough to beat, Bunch argues that Jordan is such a "featherweight" that he might be able to pull it off.

In a tweet accompanying his article, Bunch wrote: "Heck, even the child-molesting GOP felon was probably better than this guy."

"Jordan would be the first GOP speaker who came up totally through the hothouse of Fox News," he wrote in the Inquirer. "He has risen not through any legislative achievements (he has none) or dealmaking skills, but rather from his ability to generate soundbites through mudslinging and conspiracy theories."

Even potentially worse than this, argues Bunch, were Jordan's attempts to evade accountability for trying to help former President Donald Trump illegally remain in power after losing the 2020 election, which included blowing off the House Select Committee investigating the January 6th Capitol riots.

"The risk for Democrats in supporting the ouster of McCarthy was always that the next guy would be many times worse," Bunch concludes. "Here comes Mr. Jordan."
